We got a call from a nursing home in South Dublin about a resident, Mary (82), who was in a lot of pain on the left side of her mouth. She hadn’t seen a dentist in over 6 years. The staff said she wasn’t sleeping properly and had stopped eating solid food.

We arranged to attend within 48 hours.

When we arrived, we brought our full portable kit including x-ray unit and examination equipment. Mary was quite anxious at first, but once she realised she didn’t have to leave her room she relaxed. On examination we found a badly broken molar with infection starting.

We were able to take a portable x-ray beside her bed and carried out an extraction safely on site. The procedure went smoothly, no complications.

Within a few days the staff told us she was eating again and much more settled. It’s simple things like this that make a big difference in a nursing home setting. No ambulance transfers, no hospital waiting lists, just treated where she was comfortable.
