We received a call from a daughter in Meath whose father, 76, was bedbound at home. He had facial swelling that had come up overnight and was in clear discomfort. He has Parkinson's, and leaving the house is very difficult.
We attended the same day.
On assessment there was a dental abscess around a lower premolar. We prescribed antibiotics immediately and returned three days later, once the swelling had reduced, to complete the extraction.
His daughter told us afterwards that getting him into a clinic would have been nearly impossible. Instead he was treated in his own bedroom, calmly, with no stress.
The infection resolved fully and we arranged review visits every six months. Early intervention avoided what could easily have become a hospital admission.
“I don't know what we would have done if you couldn't come out. Getting Dad into a surgery just isn't realistic anymore. You treated him with so much patience and respect, it meant a lot to us.”— Daughter of patient, Co. Meath
